Welcome and Overview
Watch California Department of Social Services Director, Kim Johnson and Deputy Director Hanna Azemeti welcome atteendees and speakers and provide an overview of the successes made this year in combatting homelessness in California.
Plenary
This plenary session will give an overview of the status of older adults and adults with disabilities that are at risk of or are experiencing homelessness in California. We will explore the landscape of healthcare, social services and housing resources available in California to support individuals and where CDSS programs fit in to help individuals achieve their housing goals.
Session 1: Braiding Funding for Maximum Program Impact and Sustainability
In this workshop locally-administered programs from diverse regions come together to share their success stories, strategies, and outcomes in maximizing the impact of programs through braided funding. In this session, attendees will learn from program representatives who have effectively combined various funding sources to create innovative solutions that address pressing community needs.
Session 2: Identifying Affordable Housing Options for Individuals with Fixed Incomes
Housing affordability is a critical issue for many older adults and people with disabilities. This workshop aims to provide valuable insights and practical information about housing options available to individuals with fixed incomes, including the importance of legal advocacy and tenant rights targeted to older adults.
Session 3: Exploring Assisted Living and Understanding When it is an Appropriate Resource
The traditional homeless system of care doesn’t always accommodate older adults and people with disabilities, especially those who need assistance with activities of daily living. Residential care facilities and recuperative care settings can be a valuable and supportive option when serving an older adult population and should be considered as part of the continuum of permanent or interim housing options.
