Racial Equity Series | Session 2: Reducing Racial Disparities through Programmatic Data and Program Design

About our session:

Reducing Racial Disparities through Programmatic Data and Program Design

What do you know about the people in your homelessness system and how their journey through the system looks? Is it the same for everyone in the system? Come explore ways you can gain insight to answers these questions.

Homelessness services generate rich quantitative and qualitative data that can be harnessed to surface racial disparities by program outcomes and program stages and inform decision makers on interventions to advance racial equity systemwide.  Join us and learn about key data indicators that will support your county or tribal community’s journey toward a more equitable homelessness system.

In this two-hour session we will: (1) Provide a brief overview of structural policies that have contributed to the overrepresentation of people of color in the homelessness response system. (2) Identify where racial disparities tend to present along the pathway from outreach to housing placement and retention. (3) Discuss system performance measures and strategies for identifying gaps in system level data.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this session or training or program, participants will be able to:

  1. Conceptually understand underlying structural policies that have contributed to the overrepresentation of people of color in the homelessness response system.
  2. Identify where racial disparities tend to present along the pathway from outreach to housing placement and retention.
  3. Identify system performance data they have access to or would like to have access to.
  4. Understand strategies for dissecting their data to analyze if participants are equitably moving through their systems.
